It’s important that careful handling practices are put in place when your feeding raw food to your pets. Feeding raw dog or cat food is safe for both you, your family and your pet if you follow these simple strategies.
Keep food frozen until use. Defrost food in the refrigerator using standard food safety guidelines. Discard or place uneaten raw food into the refrigerator immediately following a feed. Raw foods have a shelf life of 3-5 days in the refrigerator. Partially eaten food should be served at the following meal or discarded.
Keep your area and dishes clean. Raw foods are best served in a stainless steel bowl that is easy to clean and does not have surfaces pores that could potentially breed bacteria. Bowls and all utensils should be cleaned after each feeding in hot, soapy water. We recommend having a separate, dedicated sponge to clean your utensils. Be sure to clean you preparation surface area with a disinfectant wipe too
Raw foods should be kept away from children and separate from other foods.
